New RECONMATIC paper unveils insights from Circular Economy Design in Italy's Construction Industry

The latest scientific publication by the RECONMATIC partner the University of Salford and the School of the Built Environment of the University College of Estate Management in the UK, sheds light on the growing importance of circular economy (CE) principles within Italy's Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector. With global resource consumption in the construction industry expected to rise and the persistent issue of construction and demolition waste (CDW) posing significant environmental challenges, CE strategies offer a promising solution. These strategies emphasize resource and energy efficiency, aiming to reduce waste and mitigate the environmental impact of building materials while also unlocking economic opportunities.

The study, published in Buildings, focuses on identifying and assessing design practices that influence the adoption of CE principles in Italy's AEC sector.

The research includes a survey of 77 Italian designers and the findings provide valuable insights into the core strategies driving comprehensive circular approaches, as well as the constraints and opportunities for Circular Economy implementation in the industry.

Methodological framework of the study, assembling PRISMA 2020 flow diagram for systematic reviews.

These insights are expected to support decision-making, inform policy development, enhance CE literacy, establish new quality standards, and guide businesses in sustainability investments. The study's outcomes serve as a baseline reference for understanding how the Italian construction sector can evolve towards a more sustainable future.
